About the Role
We're working with a leading healthcare provider to find a Deputy Lead Radiographer for their Imaging & Diagnostics department, based in central London.
This is a full-time, permanent role working 37.5 hours per week. The service operates from 08:00 to 20:00, Monday to Friday, with voluntary Saturday duties and compressed long days available once established.
You'll support the delivery of high-quality, patient-focused MRI imaging across a four-scanner service, working under the guidance of the MRI Superintendent and deputising in their absence. The post also holds clinical leadership for cardiac MRI, covering education, training, protocol development and image optimisation for adult and paediatric patients, alongside a full hands-on scanning commitment across all four scanners.
You'll report to the MRI Superintendent and lead a team of senior and rotational MRI radiographers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the cardiac MRI service for adult and paediatric patients, including stress perfusion work
- Own cardiac protocol development and sequence and image optimisation
- Deliver cardiac MRI education and training to the wider imaging team
- Act as the clinical point of reference for cardiac referrals and complex cases
- Perform the full MRI range across all four scanners, vetting and protocolling requests in line with IR(ME)R
- Administer drugs and intravenous contrast agents under Patient Group Directions
- Deputise for the MRI Superintendent and take part in the weekly and on-call rota
- Uphold MR safety, infection prevention and control, and quality assurance standards
- Lead and contribute to audit, risk assessment, SOP and protocol review
- Provide compassionate, dignified care and liaise with radiologists, cardiologists and multidisciplinary colleagues
- Mentor radiographers and assistant practitioners and carry out competency assessments
- Manage the MRI staff rota, approve annual leave and reconcile worked hours monthly
- Contribute to recruitment, induction and team development
- Trial and evaluate new techniques and technology
What We're Looking For
- BSc (Hons) Radiography, DCR(R) or recognised international equivalent
- Current HCPC registration
- Minimum five years' post-registration MRI experience, including specialist techniques
- Demonstrable cardiac MRI competence, scanning independently
- Established right to work in the UK without sponsorship
- Working knowledge of IR(ME)R, MR safety, health and safety, quality assurance and clinical audit
- Evidence of protocol development or image optimisation work
- Experience of supervising, mentoring or assessing other radiographers
- Cannulation and IV contrast administration under Patient Group Directions
- Sound independent judgement, clear communication and accurate record keeping
- Desirable: previous deputy, superintendent or clinical lead responsibility
- Desirable: paediatric cardiac MRI and Siemens MRI experience
- Desirable: independent sector or private healthcare experience
- Desirable: formal MR Safety Expert or MR Safety Officer training
